Bird’s Nest Seeks New Translators!

Bird’s Nest: Ai Weiwei in English is seeking more translators to join our community.  As you know, we’ve been growing rapidly, with over 8,000 followers and lots of mainstream media looking to us for translations of Mr. Ai’s tweets.  But as an entirely volunteer-run site that relies on human translation, we’re in great need of new translators to join the team.  Do you speak Mandarin and English with reasonable fluency?  Read on.

We’re looking for a core set of translators to work with tweets each day.  We’re looking for folks who:

- Have had at least 2-3 years’ intensive study in Mandarin (and fluency is even better!)
- Are able to read and understand simplified Chinese characters
- Are fluent in English (but you don’t have to be a native speaker)
- Have a Twitter and Tumblr account (or can get one)
- Can commit to 1-2 hours each week
- Are excited about the power and potential of social media and Mr. Ai’s work

This is an exciting opportunity to practice your Chinese and work directly with the colloquial language of native speakers while helping bridge the language gap.  It’s also a chance to engage with one of the world’s most famous and important artists in a unique way by conveying his words to a broader international public.

If interested, leave a comment here with your email address and background. Please note that Bird’s Nest is entirely volunteer-run and -edited, but we have fun anyway. Questions?  Let us know!  We hope to hear from you.
