According to a recent Times article, Nokia still has top market share in Asia, followed up by the iPhone.
The iPhone’s sex appeal has translated well in Asia. Outside Japan, where domestic manufacturers remain strong, its market share in smartphones is second only to that of Nokia across the region, according to Gartner. Globally, the BlackBerry remains No. 2.
Curiously, domestic manufacturers still reign in Japan, despite the global success of Nokia, Apple and RIM (which makes the Blackberry). Given the imitators Nokia is up against, it will be interesting to see how the Chinese smartphone market develops. In 10 years will Ai Weiwei still be using a Nokia?
